Former Hawkeye May Earns NPF Honors

Sept. 6, 2006

IOWA CITY – Former Hawkeye Stacy May has been named the National Professional Fastpitch (NPF) 2006 Nokona Rookie of the Year. She was also one of 19 players named to the all-NPF team.

May, who plays third base for the Chicago Bandits, batted .305 with a .411 slugging percentage in her rookie season. She also recorded eight extra-base hits, including seven doubles, while stealing eight bases. May was also solid in the field, committing only two errors the entire season.

The Bandits finished 2006 with a 30-12 record and claimed the regular season title.

May was Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2003 and earned all-Big Ten honors her freshman, sophomore and senior seasons. She finished her career at Iowa with a .338 batting average with 23 home runs, 109 RBI and 51 doubles-which was one shy of the school record.
