Hawkeyes And Ramblers Battle To 1-1 Draw

Chicago, IL – The University of Iowa women’s soccer team battled to a 1-1, double-overtime draw Friday night against Loyola-Chicago. The Hawkeyes now stand at 1-2-1 with four points on the season.

Loyola took an early 1-0 lead in the 15th minute with Cynthia Morote-Ariza scored on a 12-yard shot. The Ramblers kept their 1-0 lead into halftime and came out firing in the second half. Junior goalkeeper Lindsey Boldt, who played the entire 110 minutes in net, recorded all five of her saves between the 48th and 71st minutes to keep Iowa alive.

The Hawkeye offense responded with a late equalizer off the foot of Stephanie Hyink in the 76th minute to level the score at 1-1. Junior Kelsie Full played the ball to junior Claire Goldenberg, who found Hyink on a through-ball. Hyink scored from 10 yards out to send the match into overtime.

Iowa’s defense was strong in the extra frames, holding Loyola without a shot the entire 20 minutes. Freshman Alexandria Seydel nearly gave Iowa a dramatic win with a shot in the 109th minute, but Loyola goalkeeper Emily Peick pushed the chance away to preserve the draw.

Hyink along with freshman Kathleen Smokowski each recorded two shots to lead the Hawkeye offense.

Iowa will host Eastern Michigan in its home opener Sunday at 1 p.m.
