WEST CHESTER, PA –
A strong second half helped the Villanova Wildcats defeat the Hawkeyes 5-1 today.
Villanova (4-2) scored first when forward Allison Boris scored the game’s first goal at the 9:32 mark. Iowa (1-4) fought back to even the score at 1-1 when senior midfielder Kara Zappone scored her first goal of the season 16 minutes into the game. Zappone’s goal was assisted by senior Heather Schnepf and junior Kadi Sickel. The game remained tied AT halftime.
Villanova scored four of its five goals in the second half. Boris scored her second goal of the game to put the Wildcats ahead for good. Forward Megan Foster scored a hat trick in a total of nine minutes (60th minute, 66th minute, and 68th minute) to lift the Wildcats to victory.
The Hawkeyes were out shot by Villanova 11-10 and out-cornered 8-6.
Iowa returns to action tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. (CDT) at West Chester.
