Carmody Signs With Hawkeyes

Nov. 14, 2006

IOWA CITY – Head Softball Coach Gayle Blevins has announced that Chelsey Carmody has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Iowa. Carmody is from Pacific, MO and is the third and final member of this year’s recruiting class.

Carmody was recently named the Suburban West Conference Player of the Year and was also a Missouri Class 4A all-state selection. Carmody, who plays shortstop, earned all-conference honors in 2005 and 2006. She was named to both the St. Louis all-Metro and Missouri all-State teams as a junior and senior while leading her team to a third place finish at the state tournament in 2005. Carmody holds school career records for runs scored, total hits, singles, total bases, batting average and on base percentage.

Carmody is also a member of the ASA affiliated St. Louis Chaos. In 2005, the Chaos placed 17th out of 115 teams at the national tournament and 25th out of 144 teams at the 2006 tournament.

“Chelsey is a solid team player who cares about her team first and will do everything possible to insure success. We loved watching her play this summer and can’t wait to work with her.”

“We could not be more excited to sign Chelsey,” Blevins said. “She is an outstanding student-athlete who is blessed with exceptional speed, excellent defensive skills and solid hitting. As a lefty slapper and hitter, Chelsey will make us a more athletic team. Hawkeye fans will enjoy watching her play. Her instincts on the field are remarkable and she brings a contagious enthusiasm to the field, which makes her a great match for Iowa.”

“Chelsey is a solid team player who cares about her team first and will do everything possible to insure success,” Blevins continued. “We loved watching her play this summer and can’t wait to work with her.”

Blevins said the Carmody family had a big influence on her decision to sign with Iowa.

“Part of Chelsey’s decision was based upon her desire to have her family be a big part of her collegiate experience, Blevins said.”

“Chelsey excels in the classroom as well,” Blevins said. “We are very excited to have Chelsey join the Hawkeyes in 2007.”
