SOUTH BEND, IN – 59th-ranked Iowa fell to No. 2 Notre Dame, 7-0. Iowa moves to 4-4 on the season.
In doubles play, at the number one spot, Iowa’s duo of Mili Veselinovic and Jacqueline Lee were defeated by Notre Dame’s fifth-ranked duo of Catrina Thompson and Christian Thompson, 8-3. Hillary Mintz and Merel Beelen fell to No. 15 Kelcy Tefft and Brook Buck, 8-1 at the second doubles spot. Playing at the third position, Kayla Berry and Kelcie Klockenga were also defeated in their match, 8-3, by Cosmina Ciobanu and Kali Krisik.
In singles action, Klockenga was the first to finish for Iowa, falling to Brook Buck, 6-2, 6-1 to bring the match total to 2-0, Notre Dame. Beelen finished next at the number five position, falling to Ciobanu, 6-3, 6-0. Clinching the win for Notre Dame was Christina Thompson at the number two spot, defeating Veselinovic, 6-4, 6-1.
Next, No. 16 Catrina Thompson defeated Jacqueline Lee, 6-1, 6-4, and Kayla Berry lost to Kelcy Tefft, 6-1, 6-4. Wrapping up competition was Hillary Mintz and Colleen Rielley at the number three singles spot. The match went into a tiebreaker, which Mintz lost.
Iowa will return home next weekend, hosting Kansas, March 2nd at 3 p.m., and Minnesota, March 4th at 11 a.m.
