Alexander Ties School Record In 400 Meters

IOWA CITY, IA – Junior Kineke Alexander showed why she is ranked no. 1 by trackwire.com in the 400 meters Saturday. She tied her school record of 52.01, automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships and took first place at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational.

High-jumper, Peaches Roach claimed first place with a leap of 5-10, tying her season-best. Senior Tiffany Johnson took fifth place in the 60 meter hurdles (8.51) behind James Pavi’elle from Tennessee who finished first with a winning time of 8.41. Sophia Ponce and Aditya Jones finished sixth (1:24.55) and eighth (1:27.38) respectively in the 600 yard run. Morgan Bonds, from Kansas State, took the title with a time of 1:20.80. With a season best performance in the pole vault (11-3 ¾), Sarah Burgett took 11th place behind Kate Sultanova of Kansas (13-05 ¼).

At the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame, senior Meghan Armstrong set a new career mark in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:27.95 and finished fifth. Right behind Armstrong, Diane Nukuri finished sixth with a time of 9:28.41. Both runners provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships with their exceptional times.

The Hawkeyes next competition will be at the Cyclone Invitational in Ames on Feb. 9-10.
