TUCSON, AZ –
Members of the University of Iowa men’s track team opened the 2007 outdoor season this weekend at the Willie Williams Classic in Tucson, AZ. Sophomore John Hickey and senior Adam Hamilton were the first two Hawkeyes to post NCAA Midwest Regional qualifying marks for the outdoor season.
Hickey placed fifth in the shot put with a qualifying 59-5 1/2, while Hamilton placed fourth in the hammer throw with a qualifying 200-11. Hickey also placed 14th in the hammer throw (145-1).
Junior Kale Katt won the javelin (196-4) and placed eighth in the hammer throw (174-5). Sophomore A.J. Curtis placed seventh in the shot put (53-11 3/4) and 13th in the discus (144-4), and junior Mark Schaapveld placed ninth in the shot put (52-1 1/4) and 11th in the hammer (161-4).
Iowa’s next competition will be at the Louisiana State University Tiger Relays in Baton Rouge, LA, March 23-24.
