IOWA CITY, IA – The 55th-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes defeated Ohio State today, 7-0. Iowa is now 6-7 on the season, including 2-1 in Big Ten play.
In doubles competition, Iowa claimed the point, winning all three doubles matches.
In singles play, Mili Veselinovic was the first to finish, defeating Ally Mueller, 6-1, 6-3, while Hillary Mintz finished second, defeating Christina Keesey, 6-4, 6-0, at the number three singles position.
Merel Beelen defeated Angela DiPastina at the sixth spot, 6-4, 6-1. Beelen improves her record to 11-2 with the win, and has won 16 of her last 18 matches.
Jacqueline Lee defeated Julie Blackmore at the number one spot, 6-4, 6-1, and Kayla Berry defeated Sonia Ruzimovsky at the fourth spot, 6-4, 6-3. Kelcie Klockenga was the last to finish, and went into a tiebreaking match. Klockenga came out on top, defeating Caitlin O’Keefe, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.
“It was a great day for the Hawkeyes,” said Iowa Head Coach Daryl Greenan. “We beat a very good Ohio State team and I’m surprised the win was so strong on our part. The girls have been working hard and keeping their heads up after some tough losses.”
Iowa will return to action March 30th at Penn State.
