Alexander Qualifies With Fastest Time; Roach Takes 11th

March 9, 2007

Fayetteville, AR –

University of Iowa junior Kineke Alexander once again, took the spotlight at the NCAA Championships. She qualified for the finals in the 400 meters with the fastest time and broke the school record with a time of 51.62. The previous record stood at 52.01, which she has matched twice during her career.

The reigning 400 meter NCAA Champion, Alexander, came into the meet with the second fastest time in the nation, behind Natasha Hastings of South Carolina. While running in separate heats, Hastings finished closely behind Alexander with a solid time of 51.64.

Meghan Armstrong ran exceptionally well in the mile. She qualified for the finals with a time of 4:44.40, sixth fastest of the meet. Last year at the Championships, Armstrong placed ninth with a time of 4:46.65.

In the finals of the high jump, senior Peaches Roach placed 11th with a jump of 5-10 ¾, narrowly missing all-American status by three places. The 2007 Big Ten Champion finished her indoor career at Iowa as a three time Big Ten Champion and a two time all-American.

Armstrong and Alexander will compete in the finals of their events tomorrow at 6:15 and 6:55 respectively.
