EVANSTON, IL – The 55th-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes fell to 9th-ranked Northwestern today, 5-2. Iowa is now 9-9 on the season, including 5-3 in Big Ten play.
In doubles play, Iowa’s Merel Beelen and Hillary Mintz were the only Iowa duo to win their match, defeating Alexis Prousis and Suzie Matzenauer, 8-3. Lauren Lui and Keri Robison defeated Jacqueline Lee and Mili Veselinovic, 9-7, and Kayla Berry and Kelcie Klockenga fell to Alexis Conill and Samantha Murray, 8-2.
In singles play, Lee defeated 29th-ranked Murray in a tiebreaking set, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. Veselinovic also won her match, beating Prousis, 6-2, 6-1. Veselinovic has won 15 of her last 20 singles matches. Mintz lost to No. 113 Lui in a tiebreaking set, 6-0, 4-6, 6-4, while Berry was defeated by Robison, 6-1, 6-1. Nazlie Ghazal defeated Beelen, 6-3, 6-4, and Klockenga fell to Matzenauer, 6-0, 6-4.
Iowa will host its final regular season home matches next weekend. The Hawkeyes will face Illinois, Saturday at 11 a.m., and Purdue, Sunday, also at 11 a.m.
