Box Score

IOWA CITY – The University of Iowa baseball team won game two of Saturday’s doubleheader with Indiana, 9-0, Saturday for its 12th-straight victory. Iowa ups its record to 27-15 (14-8), while Indiana falls to 16-27 (6-16).

Sophomore starting pitcher Nick Erdman threw a gem for the Hawkeyes, allowing just four hits over seven innings for his first-career shutout. He struck out four and didn’t allow a walk.

Jason White gave the Hawkeyes a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first by blasting a leadoff home run over the leftfield fence.

Iowa added three more in the second, using singles by Kyle Riffel, Justin Toole and Travis Sweet, and a Hoosier error, then added one in the third to stretch the lead to 5-0.

With two outs in the bottom of fourth, Sweet gave the Hawkeyes a trio of insurance runs with a towering home run over the leftfield fence. The junior then drove in another run in the sixth with a sacrifice fly to the wall in left that just missed being his second home run of the game.

Riffel led the way for the Hawkeyes, going 3-of-3 with a run scored. White and Sweet each had a pair of hits, with Sweet adding four RBIs. Toole was 2-for-3 with three runs scored.

Iowa and Indiana will wrap up the series tomorrow with a nine-inning game starting at 1 p.m.
