IOWA CITY – The University of Iowa softball team won three of its four games last weekend at the All Iowa Classic, hosted by Drake University. The Hawkeyes defeated Iowa State (10-0), Drake (9-0) and UNI (10-2). All games were won in five innings. Iowa closed the tournament with a tough, 2-1 loss to Drake.
Senior Emily Nichols led Iowa in game one against Iowa State with a three-run home run. Sophomore Amanda Zust went the distance in the circle, throwing all five innings in the win.
Junior Erin Riemersma hit two home runs, including a two-run shot, to power Iowa past Drake. Junior Brittany Weil picked up the five-inning win against the Bulldogs.
The Hawkeyes picked up an impressive eight-run win over the Panthers before falling to Drake by only one run Sunday.
Iowa finishes the fall season this weekend by hosting the Hawkeye Fall Invite. The Hawkeyes face Muscatine Community College at 1 p.m. and Indian Hills Community College at 3 p.m. Muscatine and Indian Hills will play at 11 a.m. Fans should note the game times have been moved up one hour from the original schedule.
