Two members of the women’s tennis team competed in the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships pre-qualifying competition today. Senior Jacqueline Lee and freshman teammate Alexis Dorr represented the Hawkeyes in the pre-qualifying singles draw and pre-qualifying doubles draw for the event. Lee is currently ranked 108th nationally and Dorr won the girl’s 18s national championship last year.
The pre-qualifying competition began today at both the Los Angeles Tennis Center and Sunset Canyon Recreation Center at 8:30 a.m. Lee had a successful first round and defeated Monica Hadviger of Texas-Arlington, 6-1, 6-2, but fell to Samantha Mouly of San Diego, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1, in the second round of competition. Dorr fell to Delia Damaschin of Arkansas, 5-7, 6-2, 6-3, in the first round of competition. In doubles action, Dorr/Lee were defeated in the first round of play by Blalock/Wong of Cal-Poly 8-2. The pre-qualifying competition, which runs Sept. 29-30, is followed next week by the qualifying and main draw Oct. 2-7.
