THIS WEEK —The Iowa women’s tennis team will travel to Bloomington, IN, this weekend for the Indiana Invitational. Competition will take place at the Indiana University tennis facilities Friday, through Sunday.

THE COMPETITION–Iowa will face competition from Kansas, Kansas State, Illinois, Indiana, and Western Michigan. Elizaveta Avdeeva of Kansas is ranked 117th and Aurelija Miseviciute, also of Kansas, is ranked 119th. Megan Fudge of Illinois is also ranked 120th. Avdeeva/Edina Horvath of Kansas are ranked 36th in doubles.

LAST WEEK–The Hawkeyes opened their fall season at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic hosted by the University of Alabama. Freshman Jessica Young led the Hawkeyes finishing first in her bracket. Merel Beelen/Lynne Poggensee-Wei had the best doubles record, ending the tournament 1-2. Senior Jacqueline Lee and freshman teammate Alexis Dorr traveled to Pacific Palisades, CA to compete in the pre-qualifying rounds of the Riviera/ITA Women’s All American Championships. Lee advanced past the first round of play, but fell to Samantha Mouly of San Diego in the second round. Dorr was defeated in the first round.

LAST SEASON–The Hawkeyes ended the 2007 spring season with a 7-3 Big Ten Record, earning the fourth seed in the Big Ten Championship. The Hawkeyes ended the season ranked 51st with an overall record of 12-10. Iowa defeated Ohio State (4-2) in the first round of the Big Ten Championships before falling to Northwestern (4-1) in the semifinals.

HEAD COACH DARYL GREENAN–Coach Daryl Greenan is in his fourth season as head coach of the Hawkeyes. Greenan led the Hawkeyes to a 12-10 overall record in 2007, going 7-3 in Big Ten competition for a fourth place league finish. Greenan was named 2006 Big Ten Coach of the Year. Greenan has a 44-26 overall record in three seasons at Iowa. Toni Neykova is the assistant coach and is in her sixth season with the Hawkeyes. She is a former member of the Hawkeye tennis team (1999-2002).

NEXT WEEK–The Hawkeyes will compete in the Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championships in Ann Arbor, MI. Qualifying competition will begin Oct. 18, with main draw competition Oct. 19 through Oct. 24.
