The Iowa Women’s tennis team finished their first and second rounds of qualifying play today at the Wilson/ITA Regional Championships, hosted by the University of Michigan. The Hawkeyes finished competition today with sophomore Kelcie Klockenga posting a 2-0 record, placing her in position to qualify for one of the eight main draw spots available.
Klockenga defeated seventh seeded Manon Noe of Michigan State, 0-6, 6-4, 6-4, in her first match of the day, and continued her winning streak by defeating Katya Mirnova of Wisconsin, 6-4, 6-2. Klockenga will play Anna Dzeva of Purdue tomorrow to determine if she will be one of the eight individuals to play in the singles main draw.
Other victories for Iowa included Lynne Poggensee-Wei defeating Lilian Asuaje of Northern Illinois, 6-2, 6-2, in first round play, while Kayla Berry defeated Jessica Buterbaugh of Bradley, 6-2, 6-4, in consolation play.
Competition continues tomorrow at the University of Michigan tennis facilities with the final round of singles qualifying draw and doubles main draw starting at 8:30 a.m. Hawkeyes Alexis Dorr and Jacqueline Lee are seeded fourth in doubles main draw, while Merel Beelen and Milica Veselinovic are seeded seventh.
