SOUTH BEND, IN — The University of Iowa women’s track team shattered its 27-year-old distance medley relay record Friday night at the two-day Meyo Invitational in South Bend, IN. The Hawkeye relay placed third in 11:20.11, which bested the previous record of 11:23.02 set in 1981 by almost three seconds.

Competing on the record-setting relay were Meghan Armstrong (1,200 meters), Kineke Alexander (400), Lauren Hardesty (800) and Diane Nukuri (1,600). The former record holders were Kay Stormo, Chris Davenport, Julie Williams and Penny O’Brien.

Iowa’s top placers in the first day of competition were senior Erin O’Hern, junior Renee White and sophomore Caleigh Bacchus. O’Hern placed ninth in the weight throw with a collegiate-best 55-5 1/2, which ranks second in school history. White placed 12th in the long jump (18-10) and Bacchus placed 13th in the high jump (5-4 1/4).

The Hawkeye men and women’s teams will resume competition at the meet Saturday morning. All events will be held at Loftus Center on the University of Notre Dame campus.
