LINCOLN, NE – The No. 72 Iowa men’s tennis team defeated No. 61 Nebraska on the road Friday, 5-2.
In No. 1 singles competition, senior Bart van Monsjou defeated Hendrik Stahmer 6-2, 4-6, 6-0. Juniors Christian Bierich and Greg Holm also claimed victories. Bierich defeated David Bendheim 6-4, 7-6 (3) and Holm defeated Mark Tate 6-3, 6-4. In addition, Reinoud Haal defeated Francois Van Impe 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-2.
Iowa claimed the doubles point taking all three matches. Ritchie/van Monsjou teamed up to defeat Bendheim/Paar 7-7 (5) and Haal/Holm defeated Stahmer/Van Impe 8-2. Austen Kauss saw his first action of the spring as he teamed up with Christian Bierich to defeat Schneider/Tate 8-6.
Head Coach Steve Houghton was pleased with the results of the Hawkeyes first road test. “We had another strong performance today. It was particularly impressive because we defeated a ranked team on the road.”
