DeLand, FL – The University of Iowa softball team won its sixth-game in a row with a 2-0 decision over Bowling Green Saturday in game one of a doubleheader at the Stetson Spring Classic. The Hawkeyes improve to 16-5 with the win while Bowling Green falls to 0-13.
Iowa scored its first run of the game in the first inning. Sophomore Lindsey Digmann started the game with a single and then stole second. She scored on an RBI single by junior Colleen McGlaughlin for an early 1-0 lead.
Sophomore Katie Brown doubled Iowa’s advantage with her first career home run in the fourth inning. Brown took a 1-0 pitch and drilled it down the left field line for Iowa’s final run of the game.
Digmann and McGlaughlin each went 2-4 to lead Iowa at the plate.
Junior Brittany Weil tossed all seven innings for the shutout victory. She allowed five hits while striking out five.
The Hawkeyes are currently in action against Cornell at the Stetson Spring Classic.
