Hawkeyes Drop Game One Against Northwestern

April 13, 2008

Box Score

The University of Iowa softball team was defeated by Northwestern 2-0, in game one of Sunday’s doubleheader. The loss snapped Iowa’s five-game winning streak.

Northwestern scored the only runs of the contest in the top of the fourth inning. Kelly Dyer recorded a leadoff triple and scored on a squeeze bunt by Darcy Sengewald. Michelle Batts drove in Sengewald with a bloop single to right field for the 2-0 advantage.

Freshman Chelsey Carmody collected Iowa’s lone hit of the contest in fifth inning with a single to left field.

Junior Brittany Weil took the loss despite silencing one of the top offenses in the Big Ten to just four hits. Weil struck out eight and walked seven.

Game two of Sunday’s doubleheader will start at approximately 2:30 p.m.
