AUBURN, AL — Hawkeye senior Ryan Jordan opened the 2008 outdoor track and field season for the Iowa men’s squad, competing in the hammer throw Friday at the Tiger Classic in Auburn, AL. Jordan placed 10th in the event with a season-best toss of 171-10. Auburn’s Jake Dunkleberger won the event with a regional qualifying throw of 234-4.

The Hawkeyes will resume competition at the Tiger Classic Saturday at 11 a.m. All events will be held at Hutsell-Rosen Track on the Auburn University campus. Iowa will also send competitors to the Central College Invitational in Pella Saturday. A Central school-record 23 teams are scheduled to compete at the meet. Events are set to start at 11 a.m. at the Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium. The Hawkeyes were originally scheduled to compete at the Messersmith Invitational in Cedar Falls this weekend, but the meet was cancelled earlier this week due to wet conditions at the facility.
