The University of Iowa women’s rowing team competed in a scrimmage against No. 12 Minnesota on the Mississippi River Sunday. The teams raced in V8+, 2V8+,V4+, N8+, and 2N8+ duels. Each boat competed in four 600 meter pieces.
The novices raced well against Minnesota posting three wins in the N8+ and sweeping the races in the 2N8+.
“I think my crews did really well and they executed their race plan exactly as they should have,” said Novice Coach Chuck Rodosky.
Varsity boats had a good performance against the ranked opponent. The V8+ tied with Minnesota on the second race, and kept the margins under 4.5 seconds in each of the other three races.
“I was pleased to see how the first varsity eight raced against Minnesota who is ranked No. 12 in the country,” said Hawkeye Head Coach Mandi Kowal. “I appreciated being able to watch the races from start to finish from the launch which provided me with valuable information about our crews. It is information which we will use to prepare for the next series of races.”
The Hawkeyes will return to the water April 11 when they travel to Washington, DC to compete in the George Washington Invitational.
