IOWA CITY – University of Iowa freshman Jenny Schuelke will be honored as the 2008 Jack North Award recipient at this year’s Iowa Girls State Softball Tournament. The presentation will take place Friday, July 18 at 5 p.m. on Diamond 2 at the Ft. Dodge Rogers Sports Complex.

The award is given to the most outstanding high school softball player from the previous high school season. Schuelke led Solon High School to the 2007 Class 2A state title and was named the Iowa high school Class 2A Player of the Year. She was also a unanimous first team elite all-state pick as a senior and was named captain of the state tournament all-tournament team.

Schuelke had a successful freshman campaign as a Hawkeye, appearing in 51 games, with 20 starts. She finished the season with two home runs, six RBI and seven runs scored. Her first hit in Black and Gold was a home run against Drake in the Metrodome Classic Feb. 17.
