Hawkeyes Honored At Football Game

IOWA CITY – The University of Iowa softball team was one of five teams honored at halftime of Saturday’s football game against Florida International for participating in the NCAA Tournament.

The Hawkeyes hosted an NCAA Regional at Pearl Field for the eighth time in school history and finished with a 42-20 overall record. Iowa enjoyed trips to both the Big Ten Tournament and NCAA Regional championship game and finished the Big Ten regular season with a 14-6 mark.

Senior Colleen McGlaughlin was one of 11 student-athletes nationally to be named ESPN the Magazine first team academic all-American and was joined by senior Brittany Weil as an NFCA first team all-Mideast region pick. Junior Katie Brown was a first team all-Big Ten selection, McGlaughlin and Weil were named to the second team and senior Quinn Morelock was tabbed as a third team pick.

Iowa opens its fall schedule Sept. 20-21 at the All Iowa Classic, hosted by the University of Northern Iowa. The Hawkeyes will take on Drake (Noon) and Northern Iowa (2 p.m.) Saturday and Iowa State (1 p.m.) Sunday.
