IOWA CITY – The University of Iowa women’s gymnastics team will patrol the grounds around Kinnick Stadium prior to Saturday’s football game against Florida International to help raise money for flood victims. The Gymhawks are volunteering for the Florida State Disaster Relief Collection, with all proceeds to go directly to families impacted by this past summer’s flooding.

“We have dedicated this year’s community service activities to help the victims of the flooding,” said Head Coach Larissa Libby. “We want to do our part to help people and families recover from this disaster.”

Libby and the Gymhawks are among the 30 teams of two volunteers each that will be positioned in the parking lots around Kinnick and near the entry gates beginning at 9 a.m. Fans of the Hawkeyes are asked to consider making a $1 contribution as they enter Kinnick for the 11 a.m. kickoff. The staff responsible for the game-day solicitation will be wearing white t-shirts with the official logo of the gold exhibition on the front of the shirt.

All donations received on Saturday will be added to the revenue generated from the Zach Johnson Disaster Relief Exhibition scheduled for Friday, Sept. 12, at Finkbine Golf Course and donated to the 2008 Disaster Relief Fund.

They will also be honored on the field at halftime of the game for the many accomplishments the Gymhawks received during the 2008 season. Libby was named Big Ten Head Coach of the Year, leading the Gymhawks to NCAA Regionals for the first time since 2005. Senior Jenifer Simbhudas returns for Iowa after earning first team all-Big Ten honors as a junior.
