WILMINGTON, NC – The University of Iowa men’s golf team finished the first day of competition at the Landfall Tradition in a commanding fashion today. The Hawkeyes put together a stellar 286 (-2) first round with the windy conditions in Wilmington. No. 25 ranked Tulsa (308, +20) is in a distant second place, 22 strokes behind the Hawkeyes. The 54-hole tournament is being played on the par 72 Jack Nicklaus Course at the Country Club of Landfall.
Four golfers in the tournament finished the day at par or better and three of them are Hawkeyes. Sophomore Vince India is in first place after carding an impressive 68 (-4). Cole Peevler is sitting in second after 18 holes, three strokes behind his teammate. The senior finished the day with a 71 (-1). Also, sophomore Brad Hopfinger is tied for third with a 72 (E). Chris Brant was the fourth Hawkeye to finish today in the top-10 (T-9th). The freshman recorded an 18-hole score of 75 (+3). Additionally, freshman Brad George is currently tied for 21st with a 77 (+5).
