WILMINGTON, NC – The University of Iowa men’s golf team took advantage of fair weather today in the final round of the Landfall Tradition. The Hawkeyes recorded a 290 (+2) third round to finish in first with an 888 (+24). No. 25 ranked Tulsa finished 12 strokes back in second with a 900 (+36).
En route to the second-best round of the day and Coach Hankins’ first tournament title with the Hawkeyes, Vince India finished in a tie for second place with a 219 (+3). The sophomore carded a third round total of 73 (+1). Senior Cole Peevler and sophomore Brad Hopfinger both recorded 54-hole scores of 221 (+5) to finish in a tie for fifth. Peevler shot a 72 (E) today while Hopfinger shot a 70 (-2), his season low. Brad George (229, +13) finished tied at 22nd for the Hawkeyes. The freshman fired a 75 (+3) for the final day. Additionally, freshman Chris Brant (230, +14) finished in 25th place after recording a 76 (+4) on the day.
“Confidence made the difference for me this weekend,” said India on his best finish in collegiate competition. “I have a lot to work on this winter, but a finish like this will boost me into a productive off-season.”
“I felt really strong all weekend,” said Peevler. “When your teams is all doing well, you feed off of that and it motivates you that much more. This weekend was fun to play and we took a big step as a team.”
The Landfall Tradition was the Hawkeyes’ last competition of the fall season.
