COLUMBUS, OH – – The University of Iowa men’s tennis team lost to sixth-ranked Ohio State Friday, 7-0. With the loss, the 52nd-ranked Hawkeyes fall to 10-3 overall and 2-1 in Big Ten play on the season.
“Ohio State proved why they are a legitimate threat for the NCAA title,” said Head Coach Steve Houghton.
The Buckeyes, now 18-1 on the season, swept all three doubles matches to claim the point. Tommy McGeorge and Will Vasos were defeated for the first time in dual match play. The pair lost to Bryan Koniecko and Chase Buchanan, 8-3, ending the duo’s winning streak at 12. Patrick Dwyer and Greg Holm teamed up for the first time in dual match play. The pair fell to the 41st-ranked doubles team of Steven Moneke and Balazs Novak, 8-7, at the No. 2 position.
Dwyer also saw his first dual singles action of the season. The junior lost to 81st-ranked Shuhei Uzawa 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 6 position.
Iowa travels to 53rd-ranked Penn State Sunday. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. (CST).
