Weil Named Press Citizen’s Top Female Athlete

June 26, 2009

IOWA CITY – Pat Harty of the Iowa City Press-Citizen recently released his Top 10 University of Iowa female athletes of the 2008-09 season list, and Hawkeye pitcher Brittany Weil topped the list.

“Weil overcame a serious head injury as a sophomore to become one of the greatest pitchers in the history of a program that is loaded with standout hurlers,” Harty said. “She capped her illustrious career this past spring by making second-team all-America and by throwing five no-hitters, including a perfect game.”

In addition, Colleen McGlaughlin was ranked No. 6 on his Top 10 list. McGlaughlin led the team in nearly every offensive category, and was also one of 11 softball student-athletes nationally to be named ESPN the Magazine First Team Academic all-American.
