Hawkeye Updates in the Summer Leagues

KEEP UP WITH FORMER HAWKEYES: >Former Hawkeye Jason White was selected by the Orioles in the 17th round (519th overall) in 2007. Recently, he has moved up to double-A ball with the Bowie Baysox.

>Ex-Hawkeye hurler Mike Schurz has a 0.96 era right now with the GCL Astros. He has thrown nine and one-third innings in eight appearances, striking out 13.

>Fireballer Steve Turnbull has a 2.87 ERA with the Auburn Doubledays. He has appeared in eight games, throwing 15.2 innings and striking out 11.

>Southpaw Kyle Heim is throwing for the Johnson City Cardinals. He has gone eight and two-third innings in eight appearances, striking out 11.

>Justin Toole signed a free agent contract with the Cleveland Indians. Despite missing the last quarter of the season due to injury, Toole posted a solid .346 batting average with 31 runs scored, 13 doubles and 15 stolen bases.

WRAPPING UP SUMMER BALL: >Phil Schreiber, Kevin Lee and Jarred Hippen made the Prospect League All Star game. All three Hawkeyes represented the West, which won 7-4 in front of over 3,100 fans at Robin Roberts Stadium on July 15th.

>Kurtis Muller and Zach Robertson made the Northwoods League all star game

>Despite not getting an all-star bid, Ryan Durant leads his division in batting average with a solid .316.

>Phil Keppler has his batting average up to .271 after being hit with a line drive foul ball in the on deck circle, and also running into the Bucks’ center fielder defensively. He got a concussion and was out for a week.
