EVANSTON, IL – University of Iowa sophomore Sonja Molnar completed play at the ITA Midwest Regional tournament Monday. Molnar fell in the quarterfinals to Maria Mosolova of Northwestern, 6-4, 7-6.
“Overall we had a great tournament. Sonja played very well (this week) and did the right things. She played very focused on the court,” said Mira Radu. “Zuzi won her first match also to advance to the finals (Sunday). It’s exciting to see the success our girls are having.”
The women’s tennis team completed day three at the ITA Midwest Regional tournament Sunday.
Sonja Molnar downed Leigh Finnegan of Illinois, 6-1, 6-1, to advance to the quarterfinals match. Zuzi Chmelarova recorded a win over Allin of Illinois, 6-1, 6-1, but fell in the finals match to Markovic of Wisconsin, 6-4, 6-1.
Jessica Young and Kelcie Klockenga played in the finals match of the doubles competition. Young and Klockenga fell to Allin/McCarthy of Illinois, 8-3. The Hawkeyes will begin regular season play January 23 when they host Notre Dame.
