IOWA CITY, IA- The University of Iowa women’s swimming team wrapped up its third and final day of competition at the Hawkeye Invitational. After three days of competition, Iowa won the meet with 1073 points. Finishing behind Iowa are Truman State (974.5), Northern Iowa (581.5) and Western Illinois (430).
The final day of competition started off with the 1650 free. Iowa had one swimmer in the final heat of the event. Freshman Lauren Eytails won the event by nine seconds with a time of 17.20.99. Freshman Sarah Galvin had a very close race with Truman State’s swimmer but took second-place in the 200 back with a collegiate best time of 2:04.97, while Grace Borchers came in seventh with a time of 2:14.33.
Iowa had ten girls in the final two heats of the 100 free. Senior Christine Kuzcek came in second-place and earned a season best time of 51.48. Senior Julie deBruin came in second at 52.42. Senior Julie Feingold continues to keep improving on her breaststroke times. She placed first in the 200 breast and posted a collegiate best time of 2:19.81.
The Hawkeyes had solid races in the 200 fly, placing first and second. Senior Laura Mozdzen swam a collegiate best time of 2:02.86 and took the top spot in the event. Senior Katie Michelau came in behind Mozdzen for second-place and swam a season best time of 2:04.48.
Iowa concluded the meet with the 400 free relay. The Hawkeyes had a close race with Truman State in the beginning of the race, but the last 200 yards Iowa pulled ahead to win the race. The team of DeBruin, junior Katarina Tour, Senior Verity Hicks and Kuczek posted a time of 3:27.36. Iowa’s “B” relay came in third with a time of 3:35.15.
