AUSTIN, TX– The University of Iowa women’s golf team finished up its fall season in 19th place at the Onion Creek Challenge Tuesday afternoon. The Hawkeyes carded an 888 in three rounds (304-285-299). Sophomore Chelsea Harris led the way for the team, placing in the top 10 and recording a career-best, 69, in the second round. Texas A&M won the 21 team tournament shooting a 839 (-1) and had two individuals finish in the top two.
Harris carded a 71 in round one, followed by a career-best 69 in round two and 73 in round three to finish up only three over par and tied for 10th place. She chipped in nine birdies in the tournament.
Junior Brianna Coopman fired a career-best 67 in round two after draining six birdies. Her 67 is the lowest of any Hawkeye this season. With a 77 in both rounds one and three, Coopman finished with a 221 (+11).
Freshman Kristi Cardwell recorded a 74 in the second and 73 in the third to finish the tournament with a 228 (+18). Junior Lauren Forbes carded a 75 in the second; her seasons lowest score (230, +20). Junior Lauren Cilek rounded out the Hawkeye team shooting a 75 in the second and 79 in the third. (231, +21)
The Onion Creek Challenge marks the final fall competition for the team. Iowa is slated to compete next in Orange Park, FL at the Eagle Landing Invitational on March 8-9th.
