This Week
The University of Iowa soccer team travels to West Lafayette, IN to compete in it’s final game of the season Saturday. The Hawkeyes face the Purdue Boilermakers Saturday, at noon (CT).
Scouting the Opponent
Jessica Okoroafo leads the No. 22 Boilermakers with eight goals and four assists for 20 points. Eleven players on Purdue’s roster have scored this season for a total of 27 goals in 18 games.
The 10-5-3 Boilermakers have also recorded six shutouts.
Head Coach Robert Klatte is in his 12th year at the helm in West Lafayette. He was the first coach at Purdue and has built the program up to a national contender. Klatte has lead Purdue to nine consecutive Big Ten Conference Tournament berths since the 2000 season.
Series History
The Hawkeyes fell to Purdue last season, 1-2. The Boilermakers lead the overall series 5-3-2. In two of the previous three meetings, Iowa forced overtime against the nationally ranked No. 17 team in 2006 and No. 8 team in 2007.
Moran In Goal
Goalkeeper Emily Moran has continued to succeed in goal for Iowa this season. In addition to leading the Hawkeyes to six shutouts, Moran denied opponents for just over 409 straight minutes.
The sophomore made eight saves against Michigan State to bring her season total to 82 and career total to 156. Eight saves also ties her season high with her efforts against UW-Milwaukee and Minnesota. Moran has played just over 1,674 minutes in goal for Iowa this season.
With the Kent, OH native in goal, the Hawkeyes have won nine games this season, a number that puts Moran second on the season individual victories list.
Iowa Stats
Iowa has outscored it’s opponents 32-26 this season. The Hawkeyes’ offense is led by junior Keli McLaughlin who has found the target nine times. Nine players have scored for the Hawkeyes, but the efforts are not only on those who hit the net.
Of Iowa’s 32 goals, 26 have been assisted. Morgan Showalter, already tied for first in the season individual assist category following her freshman campaign, leads the team in assists with five. Showalter is also tied at the number one spot on the individual assists in a match with three in Iowa’s 4-0 win against Drake last season.
The 2009 team not only had the best start in school history, but they also tied the 2008 squad for the most victories at home (7).
Adding to the impressive accomplishments made by members of this year’s team, three Hawkeyes have made their way into six different categories on Iowa’s all time records lists. Maybe even more impressive is that the three are all in their second year on the Iowa soccer team.
Moran, Showalter and McLaughlin have moved into the career assists, career saves, career victories, season individual goals, season individual game winning goals and season individual victories lists.
Alyssa Cosnek and Showalter already occupy five categories from their efforts last season, career game-winning goals, individual assists in a match, season individual goals, season individual assists and season individual game-winning goals.
Hawkeye Seniors
The soccer team recently recognized the seven seniors on the 2009-10 squad. These seniors have had a positive impact on the Iowa program since their freshman campaigns.
#0 Erica Clausen, a native of Portland, OR, has been named to the University’s Dean’s List and the Presidential Committee on Athletics three times.
#6 Alex Seydel has been named to the Dean’s List all four years at Iowa. The San Diego, CA native has started every game of her career at Iowa, tallying 77 consecutive starts.
#9 Jackie Kaeding, a co-captain of the 2009 squad, and Coralville, IA native, has started 49 matches for the Hawkeyes. Kaeding started every game of her sophomore and junior years.
#14 Kim White

#23 Kelsey McCarron, a native of Delray Beach, FL, has played in eight games this season and 25 matches in her career.
Possibly the most memorable are the two appearances in the Big Ten tournament and leading the team to the best start in school history in their final campaign as Hawkeyes.
