FEDERAL WAY, WA – The University of Iowa men’s swimming team wrapped up competition Saturday at the ConocoPhillips Short Course National Championship. Iowa finished sixth out of 53 competing teams.

Iowa’s Byron Butler kicked off the competition with a collegiate best time in the 200 back stroke (1:49.2). The freshman finished 25th in Saturday morning’s prelims, narrowly missing the 24-man finals.

Four Hawkeyes competed in this morning’s 100 free prelims. Sophomore Duncan Partridge, sophomore Paul Gordon and freshman Jordan Huff all qualified for the finals. Partridge (44.77) and Gordon (44.98) each cracked the top 20, with 14th and 19th-place finishes, respectively. Huff finished 21st (45.12) and sophomore Ryan Phelan finished 74th with a preliminary time of 46.6.

Junior Sean Hagan finished 31st in the 200 breast in this morning’s prelims. Hagan narrowly missed the finals, swimming the event in 2:04.29.

The Hawkeyes concluded the three-day competition with a 4th-place finish in the 4×100 free (2:55.19).

The Hawkeyes return to the water Jan. 6 at the Winter College Invitational in Daytona Beach, FL.
