Hawkeyes Sign Fall Recruits

Dec. 3, 2009

IOWA CITY – The University of Iowa men’s gymnastics Head Coach Tom Dunn HAS announced that two gymnasts have signed National Letters of Intent to attend the University of Iowa next fall. Lance Alberhasky and Angelo Bronzino will join the Hawkeyes for the 2011 season.

“We are very excited about our commitments from Lance and Angelo,” Dunn said. “Both athletes are just beginning to come into their own and the Hawkeyes will reap the benefits of their progress during the next four years.”

Hailing from Iowa City, IA, and Regina High School, Alberhasky is Dunn’s first Iowa City recruit in 30 years. Dunn has had gymnasts from Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, Des Moines, Council Bluffs and the Quad Cities on the team, but never an Iowa City native. Alberhasky has been coached by Brad Virkler at the Iowa Gym-nest. As a junior in high school, he won Iowa state titles on Pommel Horse, Rings and Parallel Bars and will favored to win the same in 2010. He has qualified for the Junior Olympic Championships for the last seven years, and competed as a member of the Region IV Team (IA, MN, NC, WI, ND and SD) six times. Alberhasky has also been a USA Gymnastics Honorable Academic all-American for the last three years.

Bronzino will come to Iowa next fall from Aurora, IL and Batavia High School. He is coached by Chris McKee at Bartlett Gymnastics in Bartlett, IL. Bronzino becomes Iowa’s fourth recruit from Bartlett Gymnastics in the past three years. Blaine Klaczak is a sophomore this year and Matt McGrath and Timm Krueger are Hawkeye freshmen. Bartlett won the 2009 National Club Championships in Cincinnati, OH last May. Bronzino excels on Rings and Horizontal Bar and is a five-time qualifier to the Junior Olympic Championships. He is also a USA Gymnastics Academic all-American.
