Rain Suspends Game Two of Big Ten Opening Series

EAST LANSING, MI – The University of Iowa baseball team’s Saturday afternoon game against Michigan State was suspended after the seventh inning due to heavy rain showers. The two teams will complete the game on Sunday at 11 a.m. prior to playing the final game of the series thereafter. Michigan State led, 16-2, after the seventh inning.

Michigan State plated five in the second, four in the third and seven in the sixth. Torsten Boss drove in five runs, going 2-for-4 with a double and homer to lead the Spartan offense

Iowa’s offense scattered nine hits, six Hawkeyes recorded a base hit. Mike McQuillan and Ryan Durant were 2-for-3 with a run scored and Tyson Blaser was also 2-for-3. Both Durant and Blaser had RBI.

Iowa plated its lone two runs in the fourth frame, to trail, 9-2. McQuillan led off with a single toleft center and advanced to third with a Durant double. Phil Keppler drove in McQuillan and advanced Durant on a ground out. Blaser came up big with a two-out double

Hawkeye starter Zach Kenyon went five complete innings, allowing 12 runs, seven earned, off 11 hits. Iowa’s bullpen featured: Patrick Schatz.
