MADISON, WI – The University of Iowa softball team defeated Wisconsin, 1-0, Wednesday in game one of a doubleheader at Goodman Diamond. The Hawkeyes improved to 21-14-1 overall and 7-1 in Big Ten play.
Iowa scored the only run of the game and recorded its only two hits of the contest in the third inning. Freshman Johnnie Dowling started things after being hit by a pitch and then stole second. Dowling hustled to third on a bunt single from senior Taylor Leichsenring and scored on an infield single off the bat of sophomore Liz Watkins.
Senior Amanda Zust came away with the win in the pitcher’s duel. Zust allowed only two Badger hits with seven strikeouts. Wisconsin starter Letty Olivarez also gave up only two hits and struck out 10 Hawkeye batters.
