BLOOMINGTON, IN – – The University of Iowa men’s tennis team lost to No. 14 Illinois in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament Friday, 4-0. The 61st-ranked Hawkeyes, seeded seventh, dropped to 13-10 overall with the loss at the Indiana University Tennis Center.

Illinois, the tournament’s No. 2 seed, claimed victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions to clinch the point. Johnny Hamui and Dennis Nevolo defeated Tommy McGeorge and Will Vasos, 8-6, at the No. 2 position. Hamui and Nevolo are ranked 83rd.

The Hawkeyes were unable to claim any singles victories. Vasos, Zotov, and Reinoud Haal were downed in straight sets as Illinois clinched the 4-0 victory.

“Illinois had too much firepower for us today,” said Head Coach Steve Houghton. “Having said that, I am very pleased with the continuing improvement we have made over the last three years. I would like to thank the three seniors for their contributions to this program.”
