Hawkeyes Advance to National Semifinals

July 14, 2010

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – University of Iowa swimmers Deidre Freeman and Veronica Rydze advanced through the Zone C National Championships after competing in the preliminary round last weekend at the University Aquatic Center on the campus of Minnesota.

The Hawkeye duo placed second in the 3-meter synchronized diving event to advance to the semifinal round on the campus of Texas A&M, Aug. 10-15.

Freeman will also compete in the 3-meter and 1-meter semifinal events. The Hawkeye senior-to-be placed first in the 1-meter diving preliminary round. Rydze placed seventh in the 1-meter competition, one spot removed from advancing to the semifinal round.

“Both divers have been training extremely hard in Portland to prepare for these events,” said University of Iowa Head Diving Coach Bob Rydze. “I’m confident their hard work will pay off as they both enter their senior seasons.”
