IOWA CITY, Iowa – – The University of Iowa baseball team will play Kirkwood Community College Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Kirkwood Baseball Field in Cedar Rapids.
Sunday will be the first competition against an opponent this fall for the Hawkeyes, who finished the spring season winners of 11 of their last 14 contests, including advancing to the championship game of the Big Ten Tournament.
Iowa returns six position starters in 2011, including its entire infield: Zach McCool (3B), Phil Keppler (1B), Mike McQuillan (2B), Kurt Lee (SS), Tyson Blaser (C) and Trevor Willis (OF). Additionally, the Black and Gold return a number of experienced pitchers: Jarred Hippen, Nick Brown, Zach Kenyon, Matt Dermody and Kevin Lee.
