NORMAN, Oklahoma —The University of Iowa men’s tennis team had a challenging day at the ITA Central Region Championships, facing stern competition across the board.
After opening with two victories in the doubles play main draw yesterday to reach the quarterfinals, Iowa’s tandem of Austen Kauss and Will Vasos were knocked off for the first time this tournament. Kauss and Vasos dropped a tight match to Arkansas’ Christopher Nott and Matthew Hogan, falling 9-8 (3).
Iowa’s Marc Bruche had his five match win streak – which started with a 4-0 slate at the Northwestern Invitational to claim the title – was snapped in the second round of main draw play in singles action. Southern Illinois’ Adam Fabik dealt Bruche a 7-5, 6-1 setback.
With heavy rains for the second day in a row in Norman, consolation action was postponed. Action will resume Sunday at 9:00 a.m., with main draw and consolation play.
