IOWA CITY, Iowa – – The University of Iowa field hockey team lost to Northwestern Sunday at Grant Field, 4-2.

Northwestern (11-6, 3-1) struck first with two goals in the early moments of the first period. Chelsea Armstrong scored both goals off corners. Sarah Marcincin and Stacy Uchida were credited with assists on each.

Trailing 2-0, Iowa responded. Freshman Danielle Peirson found fellow freshman Kim Scraper, who scored to cut the deficit to 2-1. Sophomore Sarah Drake added another Hawkeye goal in the 32nd minute to tie the score heading into the half.

Armstrong added a third goal for Northwestern at the 46:59 mark to put the Wildcats back out front. She added a fourth goal in the 58th minute to push the lead to 4-2. The Iowa offense applied pressure throughout the remainder of the final period but was unable to push across another score.

Iowa (3-12, 0-5) returns to action next Saturday, hosting No. 6 Ohio State. The match is scheduled to begin at noon CT at Grant Field. It can be seen on the Big Ten Network as a same day delay at 5 p.m. CT.
