Two Hawkeyes Earn All-Big Ten Honors

Nov. 4, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa – – The Big Ten Conference announced Thursday that two members of the University of Iowa field hockey team have earned all-Big Ten honors.

Sophomores Jessica Barnett and Sarah Drake have both been named to the second team. Junior Becca Spengler represents Iowa’s field hockey Sportsmanship Award honoree for the second consecutive year.

Barnett, a native of North Vancouver, Canada, has started every game of her Hawkeye career. She started all 19 games last year as a freshman and was a main contributor on Iowa’s defensive penalty corner unit. This year, she leads the Black and Gold in goals (seven), points (14) and game-winning goals (two).

Drake, who hails from Ann Arbor, Mich., has also started every game of her career. She was named to NFHCA National Academic Squad last year as a freshman. Drake amassed eight goals in 2009, which ranked third on the team, and recorded 17 points, which tied for third most on the team. This season she has tallied two goals and one assist.

“Jess (Barnett) and Sarah (Drake) are very consistent performers,” said 11th-year Head Coach Tracey Griesbaum. “Both bring passion to the field on a daily basis. They have represented the Hawkeyes well and I look forward to their contributions in the future.”

Forty-one Hawkeyes have received all-Big Ten honors under Griesbaum.
