AUSTIN, Texas – Two University of Iowa divers wrapped up competition at the 2011 NCAA Championships Friday. Deidre Freeman and Veronica Rydze both ended the competition earning All-America honors for the Hawkeyes.
Freeman advanced to the consolation finals round in the three-meter event after placing ninth in the preliminary round. She went on to place 10th overall in the consolation event with a score of 370.65.
Rydze was injured during her first dive of the competition. She attempted a second dive before withdrawling due to the injury.
Freeman and Rydze both garnered All-America honors for the Hawkeyes. Rydze received the honor on the one-meter board, while Freeman earned the accolade on both the one and three-meter springboards.
“We had a great meet, and it has been a great season overall” said diving coach Bob Rydze. “I’m really proud of the girls, and we going home with two All-Americans.”
The divers will find out where they finished as a team overall after the conclusion of the Championships Saturday night.
