IOWA CITY, Iowa — The Iowa baseball team and Nebraska-Omaha battled to a 4-4 tie in a scheduled 14-inning exhibition Sunday afternoon at Duane Banks Field.
The Hawkeyes finished the game with 12 hits, four of which came off the bats of senior Phil Keppler and freshman Ryan Rumpf. Keppler and Rumpf each smacked two hits.
Ten pitchers saw action today for the Hawkeyes: Jarred Hippen, Matt Dermody, Tim Fangman, Patrick Lala, Sasha Kuebel, Phil Keppler, Ben Bergman, Nick Hibbing, Andrew Hedrick, Andrew Hanse.
Iowa head coach Jack Dahm say a lot of positives for the team’s first competition of the fall.
“I thought some of our pitchers really threw the ball well,” said Dahm. “I was excited to see how our freshman handled their first outside competition; they didn’t seem overwhelmed by any means. I also thought we made some tremendous defensive plays, which is going to be important for us. We need to do a better job of executing with guys in scoring position; that’s an area we need to continue to improve.”
Iowa returns to action Oct. 8-9 when the Hawkeyes travel to Columbia, Mo., to face Missouri is a two-game exhibition series.
