Hawkeyes Enter Final Round in 13th

Round 2 Results

AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Iowa women’s golf team is in 13th place after two rounds at the 38th annual Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational. The Hawkeyes followed a 297 (+9) first round, a season-best 18-hole score, by shooting a 313 (+25) second round on Tuesday, posting 36-hole score of 610 (+34). Host Texas (288-293=581, +5) leads the 15-team field. Texas is holding the event at the 6,344 yard, par 72 University of Texas Golf Club.

“Unfortunately, we struggled a bit mentally today,” said head coach Megan Menzel. “We look forward to going out tomorrow, trusting ourselves and finishing the fall strong.”

Freshman Shelby Phillips paced the Hawkeyes for the second consecutive round. Phillips used an even par front nine to record a three-over 75 during the second round. The Gilbert, Ariz., native enters Wednesday’s third and final round in a tie for 13th place at 147 (72-75, +3). Her 147 set a season-best 36-hole score. Senior Chelsea Harris also posted a season-best 36-hole score. Harris shot a second round 77 (+5), moving her two round total to 153 (76-77, +9). She enters Wednesday tied for 39th.

Freshman Lauren English fired a team-high three birdies during the second round en route to a 79 (+7). She finished the day tied for 46th with a 36-hole score of 154 (75-79, +10). Senior Gigi DiGrazia and junior Kristi Cardwell both carded 82’s (+10) on Wednesday to round out the Iowa scorecard.

The Hawkeyes will play their final round of the fall Wednesday. Play will commence with an 8:45 a.m. (CT) shotgun start. Live results will be available at GolfStat.com.
