IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa senior diver Veronica Rydze has been named the Big Ten Diver of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. Rydze earned the accolade after claiming the 1 and 3-meter diving titles at last week’s Hawkeye Invitational.
The Iowa City, Iowa, native posted personal bests and NCAA Zone Diving qualifying marks at the Invitational. She finished with scores of 308.95 in the 1-meter and 345.90 in the 3-meter.
The honor is the first for a Hawkeye diver this season. It is Rydze’s second career Diver of the Week honor, as she previously was recognized on Jan. 19, 2010.
Iowa returns to action on Friday night at Iowa State in an Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series event. The dual is slated to begin at 6 p.m. (CT).
