2 Hawkeyes Invited to Pretigious Events

Jan. 5, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa men’s golfers Steven Ihm and Joseph Winslow competed in two prestigious tournaments over winter break. Both players participated in the Patriot All-America Invitational, and Winslow also played in the South Beach Amateur Invitational.

Winslow started play Dec. 20-23 at the inaugural South Beach International Amateur Invitational in Miami. He was one of 156 players invited to the tournament, which included the top junior players in the world. The first two rounds of the tournament were split between the Normandy Shores Golf Club and the Miami Beach Golf Club. The final two rounds were held at the Miami Beach Golf Club.

Winslow tied for 33rd place out of 156 players with a four-round score of 293 (+10). He made the initial cut after two rounds of play, carding a 70 (-1) and 76 (+5) to continue play. Only 56 players made the next cut after the third round, and Winslow’s 72 (+1) kept him alive. He fired a 75 (+4) in the final round.

The Patriot All-America Invitational, held Dec. 28-30 at the Wigwam Resort’s Gold Course in Litchfield Park, Ariz., featured the top 82 junior, junior college and NCAA players from the previous season. Ihm was invited based on his stellar junior college season at Indian Hills Community College, while Winslow earned an invitation from his final season as a junior golfer last summer before enrolling at Iowa.

Ihm tied for 35th place out of 82 players with a 291 (+6). He fired a first round score of 77 (+6) and followed with a 67 (-4) in the second round. He finished with a 75 (+4) for the 291 total.

Winslow carded a three-round total of 224 (+11) and tied for 49th place. He started the tournament with a 74 (+3) and shot a second round total of 72 (+1). Winslow wrapped up competition with a 78 (+7).

The Hawkeyes return to collegiate action Feb. 4 at the Big Four Match Play Challenge in Phoenix.
