AMES, Iowa – The University of Iowa Track and Field Team captured two first place finishes at the Iowa State Qualifier Saturday. Tevin-Cee Mincy took the 60 meters title, while Matt Banse finished first in the weight throw.
Mincy ran to a first place finish in the 60 meters. The sophomore crossed the line with a personal best time of 6.81. That time ranks seventh all-time at Iowa. Mincy also ran to a seventh place finish in the 200 meters posting a time of 21.94.
Banse, a senior, captured the title in the weight throw with his toss of 64-5 (19.63m).
Two Hawkeyes recorded personal performances in the 60- meter hurdles. Senior Dan Davis finished second with a time of 8.02. That time ranks fourth all-time at Iowa. Freshman Torrey Campbell crossed the line in 8.11 to finish fourth. Campbell’s personal best preliminary time of 8.09 rank seventh all-time at Iowa.
Jon Michael Brandt ran to a second place finish in the 5,000 meters. The sophomore crossed the line in 15:07.33.
Sophomore Nathan Prom, freshman Kyle Wheeler, junior Ryan Weir, freshman Brennan Davey, and sophomore Kyle Slaymaker all competed in the 800 meters. Prom finished seventh with a time of 1:52.50. Wheeler followed close behind finishing eighth with a personal best time of 1:53.45. Weir (1:53.74) and Davey (1:53.85) finished ninth and tenth, respectively. Slaymaker rounded out the Hawkeye lineup finishing 12th with a personal best time of 1:54.33.
Sam Chaney recorded a personal best time in the 3,000 meters. The sophomore finished fifth with a time of 9:06.14.
Junior Ethan Holmes and senior D ‘Juan Richardson competed in the 400 meters for the Hawkeyes. Holmes finished 12th with a time of 48.61, while Richardson ran a time of 49.16 to finished 14th.
The NCAA Championships will be held on March 9-10 in Boise, Idaho.
