IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa swimming and diving program welcomed back approximately 20 former Hawkeye swimmers and divers Saturday morning at the annual Alumni Meet inside the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center. The current Iowa squad faced off against participating alumni in various events.
Participants included former NCAA Champions and Big Ten Champions. The oldest Iowa alumni in attendance was 1969 graduate Greg Sieh, who participate in the 50 free alongside current Iowa All-American’s Jordan Huff, Ryan Phelan, Duncan Partridge and Gianni Siesto. Former Hawkeyes, Brian Hill (50 free), Christine Kuczek (50, 100 free) and James Dragon (50 fly) won their heats, beating out current Hawkeye Swimmers.
The team is holding its annual spring celebration at the Marriot Hotel and Convention Center in Coralville, Iowa Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. The gathering will honor the 2011-12 student-athletes, while swimming and diving alumni will also be recognized at the event.
“It’s always great to see the support for our program by former alumni,” said Head Coach Marc Long. “I know it’s special for our current students-athletes to see the tradition of swimming and diving at Iowa. It was fun and exciting meet and we are looking forward to more celebration tonight at the banquet.”
